Port-to-port vs door-to-door FCL shipping

A practical comparison of FCL delivery options and the charges and responsibilities to clarify in a quotation.

Port to port

This option normally covers the ocean leg between the named loading and discharge ports according to the written inclusions. The customer or appointed agent arranges pre-carriage, on-carriage, clearance and excluded charges. Confirm origin and destination charges and whether they are prepaid or collect.

Door pickup or delivery

Container pickup at origin or delivery at destination can be added where available. Provide the full address, postcode, site restrictions, loading equipment and the time required to load or unload the container.

How to compare quotations

Compare total cost and responsibilities, not ocean freight alone. Request separate figures for inland transport, terminal charges, clearance, free time, waiting and empty-container return.
